VW EA 897 is a diesel engine series of Volkswagen AG, which was developed by Audi. The series comprises six cylinder - V-engines with 3.0 liter displacement and is used in various vehicles of the Volkswagen Group since 2010.
Currently, all diesel engines offered by Volkswagen Group are direct injection (DI). This engine started as a straight-five-cylinder Audi diesel in 1989 (itself derived from the EA827 series), but got reduced to an inline-four-cylinder for Volkswagens use.

The Volkswagen Golf Mk5 (codenamed Typ 1K) is a compact car/small family car manufactured and marketed by Volkswagen, as the fifth generation of the Golf in three- or five-door hatchback (August 2003 – 2008) and a five-door station wagon (2007–2009) configurations, as well as the successor to the Golf Mk4.
Prior to Volkswagen Group's first TDI engine, the first turbocharged diesel engine used in a passenger car was an indirect injection five-cylinder engine fitted to the 1978 Mercedes-Benz 300SD (W116) 300 SD sedan. [13] The first turbodiesel engine with direct injection was the 1986 Fiat Croma 2.0 TD i.d. liftback sedan. [14]
Volkswagen Golf Plus. In December 2008, a facelifted version of the Golf Plus was revealed at the Bologna Motor Show, [12] featuring a revised front end, similar to the Golf Mk6, but still largely retaining the design of the rear end and the interior of the Mk5 based vehicle. [13]
