It is an adaptation of the manga series of the same name, created by Yasuhisa Hara and published by Shueisha. The screenplay was written by Tsutomu Kuroiwa, Shinsuke Sato and Yasuhisa Hara.
A live-action film was released in April 2019; a sequel film premiered in July 2022; a third film premiered in July 2023. The anime has been licensed for English-language release by Crunchyroll. By December 2024, the Kingdom manga had over 110 million copies in circulation, making it one of the best-selling manga series of all time.
