George S. Metcalf (October 29, 1900 - 1975) was an American anthropologist, field archeologist and former supervisor of the Department of Archaeology at the Smithsonian Institution. Metcalf had no formal education past eighth grade, but was granted an honorary degree in 1970 from Luther College (Iowa) .
In 1950, Metcalf defeated the incumbent State Senator Henry W. Griffith in the Republican primary, and went on to win the election in November. He was a member of the New York State Senate from 1951 to 1965, sitting in the 168th , 169th , 170th , 171st , 172nd , 173rd , 174th and 175th New York State Legislatures .

George Metcalf Johnson (February 13, 1885 – December 14, 1965) was an American writer of mystery and western stories. Many of his westerns were published under the name George Metcalf. [1] He was born in Yankton, South Dakota, and was educated at Yale University. He taught school in New Haven, Connecticut.
