Hamilton Branch State Park is located near the town of Plum Branch in McCormick County.It sits on a 731-acre peninsula in Lake Strom Thurmond.The park became part of the South Carolina State Park Service in 1972, with land leased from the United States Army Corps of Engineers.

The state park was once the estate of noted attorney Bradley Palmer. In addition to an extensive system of multi-use trails, the park features Palmer's restored Willowdale Mansion.
The property used to create Givhans Ferry State Park was donated by the city of Charleston in 1934 [1] and was one of the original built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in South Carolina. Its namesake, Phillip Givhan, was a ferry master on the Edisto River and operated Givhan's Ferry, which allowed access between Augusta and Charleston.
