[5] The Roman Empire deemed the early Christians as a strange cult and were recognized as troublesome individuals and potential issues for the Empire.
It is famous as the location where John of Patmos received the visions found in the Book of Revelation of the New Testament, and where the book was written. One of the northernmost islands of the Dodecanese complex, [3] Patmos has a population of 3,283 (2021) and an area of 34.05 km 2 (13.15 sq mi).
According to Revelation 1:11, on the island of Patmos in the far east of the Aegean Sea, Jesus instructed John of Patmos to "[w]rite in a book what you see, and send it to the seven churches, to Ephesus, to Smyrna, to Pergamum, to Thyatira, to Sardis, to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea."
