Bulawayo (/ b ʊ l ə ˈ w ɑː j oʊ /, /-ˈ w eɪ oʊ /; [3] Northern Ndebele: Bulawayo) is the second largest city in Zimbabwe, and the largest city in the country's Matabeleland region. [4] The city's population is disputed; the 2022 census listed it at 665,940, [ 5 ] while the Bulawayo City Council claimed it to be about 1.2 million.

Lupane Town is the main center of the district located 172 km from Bulawayo along the A8 Victoria Falls Road. The Government Provincial Administrative offices are located at the Town Centre. Originally known as Bulawayo International Airport, it was renamed in honour of the late Dr Joshua Nkomo, the leader and founder of the Zimbabwe African People's Union in 2001. [2] [3] Dr Nkomo also served as a Vice President of the Zimbabwe Government. It is another of Zimbabwe's international airports.

Mutare, formerly known as Umtali until 1982, [2] is the capital and largest city in the province of Manicaland.It is the third most populated in Zimbabwe.Having surpassed Gweru in the 2012 census, with an urban population of 224,802 and approximately 260,567 in the surrounding districts, Mutare adds to the wider metropolitan area a total population of over 500,000 people.
