Thaksin University, named from the Sanskrit word 'Thaksin' meaning 'of the South', is an autonomous university of the Royal Thai Government. An early adopted, Thaksin University achieved this independence of management while continuing to receive Government budget when parliament passed the Thaksin University Act, which became effective on September 1, 1996.
