The first-season episode "A Day in June" shows D-Day as a flashback, hence the action occurs during and after June 1944. The program starred Rick Jason as platoon leader Second Lieutenant Gil Hanley and Vic Morrow as Sergeant "Chip" Saunders. Jason and Morrow would play the lead in alternating episodes in Combat!.

On November 15, 2011, Timeless Media Group released Medic- The Groundbreaking Hospital Series on DVD in Region 1 for the first time. [1] The 6-disc set features 44 of the 59 episodes of the series as these are the only episodes for which Timeless was able to obtain the rights. This is believed to be due to only 44 of the prints being salvageable.
Two versions of the opening credits sequence were used this season: episodes 1–4 had the original version, while episode 5 onwards had a different version. The latter version was used through the end of Season 4. The music was written, arranged and composed by Nelson Riddle.
