The METU Erdemli campus in Mersin Province on the Mediterranean coast, used by the Middle East Technical University Institute of Marine Sciences since 1975, is the first campus of METU outside of Ankara.
Below is the list of rectors of the Middle East Technical University in Turkey.The founding director of METU was Thomas Godfrey. [1] The founding rector of Middle East Technical University was Prof. Willis Raymond Woolrich, an academic who served as a dean at the University of Texas for 25 years.
Uğur Ersoy became the first Vice Rector at METU and was in this position for two years. He took part in the formation and regulation throughout the establishment phase. In 1963, Ersoy left METU with permission and went back to the University of Texas, where he completed his doctorate in two years and returned in 1965.

Turhan Yaşar Erdoğan (1 January 1938, Tarsus – 4 January 2019, in Ankara) was a Turkish academic in civil engineering.. He graduated from Tarsus American College in 1957. He completed his M.S. studies in the Civil Engineering Department of the Middle East Technical University (METU) in 1963, and Ph.D. at the University of Berkeley and METU in 197
