A major polycarbonate market is the production of compact discs, DVDs, and Blu-ray discs. [13] These discs are produced by injection-molding polycarbonate into a mold cavity that has on one side a metal stamper containing a negative image of the disc data, while the other mold side is a mirrored surface.
Plastics extrusion is a high-volume manufacturing process in which raw plastic is melted and formed into a continuous profile. Extrusion produces items such as pipe/tubing, weatherstripping , fencing, deck railings , window frames , plastic films and sheeting, thermoplastic coatings, and wire insulation.
Simplified diagram of the process Injection moulding (U.S. spelling: injection molding ) is a manufacturing process for producing parts by injecting molten material into a mould, or mold . Injection moulding can be performed with a host of materials mainly including metals (for which the process is called die-casting ), glasses , elastomers ...
The most notable attribute of this thin-film process technology is the ability to alternate the material properties (i.e. strength, durometer, color, lubricity) amongst the individual layers or even down the length of the part, resulting in a feature-rich single-piece construction.
The blow molding process. Blow molding (or moulding) is a manufacturing process for forming hollow plastic parts. It is also used for forming glass bottles or other hollow shapes. In general, there are three main types of blow molding: extrusion blow molding, injection blow molding, and injection stretch blow molding.
The rest was pre-consumer waste from resin production and manufacturing of plastic products (e.g. materials rejected due to unsuitable color, hardness, or processing characteristics). [ 5 ] The Ocean Conservancy reported that China, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam dump more plastic into the sea than all other countries combined ...

Manufacturing large, hollow parts such as oil tanks is much easier by rotational molding than any other method. Rotational molds are much cheaper than other types of mold. Very little material is wasted using this process, and excess material can often be reused, making it a very economically and environmentally viable manufacturing process.
