Default is a Canadian rock band formed in Vancouver in 1999. Since forming, the band has released four albums, and has sold more than a million records. The majority of their fan base is in Canada, but they had brief mainstream success in the United States with the release of their hit single "Wasting My Time".
The band was formed by vocalist Craig Mabbitt in 2008. After one unreleased EP, Mabbitt was replaced by current vocalist, Tyler Smith, the same year. They were signed to Fearless Records. In 2022, the band changed their label and are currently signed to Thriller Records. They have released seven studio albums and two extended plays.
Three albums were then released (Ten-Spot, 1990, Funeral at the Movies, 1991, and Get Your Goat, 1992), before the band gained greater exposure by touring with Fugazi and Smashing Pumpkins; with their May 7, 1992, show in Albig, Germany being released by Tobby Holzinger as Your Choice Live Series Vol.21. [3]
The band was formed in 1989 by students at James Madison University.Going on the road full-time in '92, they played 200-250 shows a year for nearly the next 10 years, starting in the mid-Atlantic, and then gradually expanding their grass roots fan base until it extended across half of the U.S.
The project was picked up by the Riot Season label, who issued their debut You're Lucky to Have Friends Like Us in 2004. The band's second album, titled Ladybird, was released in 2005 and contained a forty-two minute improvisation built on a repetitive drum rhythm, which critics compared to Velvet Underground's 1967 composition "Sister Ray".
