The park protects over 11,000 acres (44.5 km²), with 2,000 acres (8 km²) by the California Department of Parks and Recreation, and 9,000 acres (36 km²) by the federal Tahoe National Forest. The park is accessed from Highway 20 west of Grass Valley or from Highway 49 north of Nevada City.
Yuba State Park got its name from the individuals who built the dam. Local farmers and ranchers had to build the dam themselves or risk losing their water rights. The men working on the structure called it the U.B. Dam. As they worked they sang a song that stated they were damned if they worked and damned if they didn't.
Yuba City (Maidu: Yubu) [7] [8] is a city in Northern California and the county seat of Sutter County, California, United States. The population was 70,117 at the 2020 census. Yuba City is the principal city of the Yuba City Metropolitan Statistical Area which encompasses all of Sutter County and Yuba County. The metro area's population is 164,138.
