The Iowa State Fair is an annual state fair held in Des Moines, Iowa, every August. It began in 1854 and has been held on the Iowa State Fairgrounds since 1886. It is based in the state capital Des Moines, Iowa over an 11 day period in August.
The Iowa State Fair was held in a different community every two years after it was first established. The first fair was held in Fairfield in 1854. The other towns that hosted the fair included Muscatine, Oskaloosa, Iowa City, Dubuque, Burlington, Clinton, Keokuk and Cedar Rapids. [2] The state fair moved to Des Moines permanently in 1878.
Founded privately in 1854, the fair was held in several locations in the state making it more of a regional event. It was also not profitable. That changed when the fair moved to this location, and its profitability eventually led to funding from the Iowa General Assembly and a permanent location on the east side of the city. [2]

Washington is a city on the south banks of the Missouri River, 50 miles west of St. Louis, Missouri. With an estimated population of 15,075, it is the largest city in Franklin County, Missouri . It is notable for being the " corncob pipe capital of the world," with Missouri Meerschaum located on the city's riverfront.
It was originally built from 1926 to 1927 and was expanded in 1929. The building was listed as a contributing property on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987 as a part of the Iowa State Fair and Exposition Grounds and it was individually listed in 1991 as a part of the Conservation Movement in Iowa MPS.
