The property was settled in as early as 1785 and had several incarnations and owners before the current house was built in 1873. The most famous resident of the property was Dr. Alfred Sawyer, who lived there from 1859 to 1870. In 1938, the house was given to the city. The house is currently open to the public for a wide variety of functions. 18
It is now owned by the Friends of the Loren Andrus Octagon House, Inc., which bought it in 1987. [2] In the 1990s and early 2000s most of the land the Octagon house once sat on was sold and converted into single-family residential homes and a shopping center. A move under the township’s controversial zoning and rationalization plan (1993).

Rose Terrace was a private home located at 12 Lake Shore Drive in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan. Built in 1934 by Anna Dodge, widow of automobile pioneer Horace E. Dodge, it was designated a Michigan State Historic Site in 1971 [2] and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971. [1] Despite this, the house was demolished in 1976.
