Weston County was created by the legislature of the Wyoming Territory on March 12, 1890, of land partitioned from Crook County. [3] Weston County was named for John Weston, a geologist and surveyor. [4] In 1887, Jefferson Weston and Frank Mondell found rich coal deposits north of Newcastle which caused a railroad to be built through the area.
Washakie County was created on February 21, 1911, as Hanover County with land detached from Big Horn County and organized in 1913.
