The institution was founded as the Indian Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad as a foundation for the 20 Indian Institutes of Information Technology under the same model, which was renamed to International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad in 2001, when it attained a status of a deemed university. IIIT Raichur began functioning on 26 July 2019 from a temporary campus at Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad(IIT Hyderabad), with Prof. Budaraju Srinivasa Murty as the mentor director and IIT Hyderabad as the mentor institute. Since December 2022, Prof. Harish Kumar Sardana has been serving as the founding director of the institute. [1]

On 5 November 2024, it was announced by IIT Kanpur , and Joint Admission Board(JAB) that the attempts of JEE-Advanced are now increased from 2 to 3. [ 72 ]
The campus of MJCET is located at Banjara hills in the city of Hyderabad. The campus is divided into various buildings for different departments of engineering. Block 4 is the oldest, where the college was first started in 1980. There is a separate block exclusively for workshops.
