Kenedy Pasture Company, which also houses the Kenedy Ranch Museum, Sarita, Texas, 2008. In 1904, the town of Sarita, Texas was founded from land that had been part of Kenedy Ranch. John G. Kenedy named the town after his daughter Sarita Kenedy East. The town served the Kenedy Pasture Company and Kenedy Ranch and its employees.
The ranch itself is located in South Texas between Corpus Christi and Brownsville, adjacent to Kingsville. It was founded in 1853 by Captain Richard King and Gideon K. Lewis. It includes parts of six Texas counties: most of Kleberg , much of Kenedy , and parts of Brooks , Jim Wells , Nueces , and Willacy counties.

Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge is a 2,088-acre (8.45 km 2) National Wildlife Refuge situated along the banks of the Rio Grande, south of Alamo in the Lower Rio Grande Valley, in Hidalgo County, South Texas. The wildlife refuge was established for the protection of migratory birds in 1943.

The section from FM 2430 (now West Montgomery Road) to US 75 was transferred to FM 2430 on December 10, 1959, while FM 149 was rerouted north over the former route of FM 2430. A spur connection to FM 1488 was added on November 1, 1968 which replaced the old route of FM 149 because one section of the old route was transferred to FM 1488.
