Front Street in Battle Mountain was formerly part of State Route 1, [1] a route designated with the creation of the Nevada State Highway System in 1917. [5] The adoption of the U.S. Highway System in 1926 by the Bureau of Public Roads created US 40 in Nevada, [citation needed] which was also routed along Front Street through Battle Mountain.
The entire highway was paved by 1953, [12] and the SR 8A designation was moved onto the newer section near Battle Mountain by 1954. [13] On July 1, 1976, Nevada began renumbering its state highways. In this process, the Austin – Battle Mountain Road segment of SR 8A was reassigned to a new State Route 305.
