Double Data Rate 2 Synchronous Dynamic Random-Access Memory (DDR2 SDRAM) is a double data rate (DDR) synchronous dynamic random-access memory (SDRAM) interface. It is a JEDEC standard (JESD79-2); first published in September 2003. [2] DDR2 succeeded the original DDR SDRAM specification, and was itself succeeded by DDR3 SDRAM in 2007.
Stub Series Terminated Logic (SSTL) is a group of electrical standards for driving transmission lines commonly used with DRAM based DDR memory IC's and memory modules. SSTL is primarily designed for driving the DDR (double-data-rate) SDRAM modules used in computer memory; however, it is also used in other applications, notably some PCI Express PHYs and other high-speed devices.
The individual chips making up a 1 GB memory module are usually organized as 2 26 8-bit words, commonly expressed as 64M×8. Memory manufactured in this way is low-density RAM and is usually compatible with any motherboard specifying PC3200 DDR-400 memory.
A DIMM (Dual In-Line Memory Module) is a popular type of memory module used in computers. It is a printed circuit board with one or both sides (front and back) holding DRAM chips and pins . [ 1 ] The vast majority of DIMMs are manufactured in compliance with JEDEC memory standards , although there are proprietary DIMMs.
The DDR4 chips run at 1.2 V or less, [18] [19] compared to the 1.5 V of DDR3 chips, and have in excess of 2 billion data transfers per second. They were expected to be introduced at frequency rates of 2133 MHz, estimated to rise to a potential 4266 MHz [ 20 ] and lowered voltage of 1.05 V [ 21 ] by 2013.
[5] DDR should not be confused with dual channel, in which each memory channel accesses two RAM modules simultaneously. The two technologies are independent of each other and many motherboards use both, by using DDR memory in a dual channel configuration. An alternative to double or quad pumping is to make the link self-clocking.
