The dutch oven is such a useful item, I'm sure you will use it all the time wether your outdoors or not. I have a 10" Lodge pan that I got for Christmas a few years ago. It hass kept up well. My Dutch oven and matching pan is the Browning set made by Camp Chef (purchased from Bass Pro) and is another great value that is worth every penny spent.
Following that in the next printed Lodge catalog reflected missing products being the 2 Quart Camp Dutch Oven, The Sportsman's Grill, and both 14" Camp Dutch Ovens. I don't recall the 1 Quart Camp Dutch Oven L6CO3 being in the catalog at either printing. I still see that the standard depth 14" Camp Dutch Oven is still not re-listed on their ...
You might want to look into cast aluminum, I have a 1-1/2 Qt. aluminum Dutch Oven without legs that I've had for more years than I can remember and have used it mostly for camping trips, it weighs less than half what my cast iron oven of about the same size, still a bit too heavy for backpacking, but great if you are car or bike camping, or use a pulk sled on winter trips.
beans, stews..everything. heat coming at the food from all directions makes a better dish. your oven set at 300 degrees puts the food in the dutch oven at a PERFECT simmer. that small DO will be pretty good for baked beans. it's small so put the dutch oven in a big pan to catch spill overs..better for the oven cleanliness.
My Lodge 10" 5 quart Deep Camp Dutch Oven barely fits a small chicken whole at 3.5 pounds and vegetables. Last edited: Jul 19, 2017 Reactions: Redwalker and stillman
What are you cooking over: charcoal or fire? My favorite dutch oven book claims you need 8 coals on the bottom and 18 on the top for a 10" dutch, or 10 on the bottom and 21 on the top for a 12" dutch or 12 on the bottom and 23 on the top for a 14 " dutch. So it depends on the size of the oven.
I have the lodge dutch oven and harbor freight frying pans. I use the large hf skillet in particular several times a week and it is better/smoother than the lodge oven, though it seemed to take a while longer to season fully. I usually just season halfway in oven then start using with oil and reheat after use and cleaning regularly.
With the Camp style Dutch Ovens there are deep and shallow depth models from some manufacturers. The deep is generally used for your meat cooking and the shallow for baking things like deserts. Not to say you can't make meat meals in a shallow oven. I have a Lodge shallow Camp Oven and will be getting a Lodge deep Camp Oven to compliment.
I looked around a bit on here, but never saw a post about this. I've seen Lodge and Texsport cast iron skillets and dutch ovens. But, online, you can find many other brands. I'm assuming that the 2 I listed are good brands. What's everyone else's opinion, and maybe some other good brands. I'm...
