I have the same issue with Airpod. My airpod pro was connected as music only and therefore cannot use as mic. i am using MAC and install windows on bootcamp. already updated all drivers but still the same issue occurs. this also same as when i use bluetooth headdset such as Beats Solo pro. I have been searching for answer on this but to no avail.
When the microphone isn't in use, it will default to Stereo high quality sound. It provides a more seamless experience in terms of profile-switching. While it still only does mono sound on the hands-free profile, I experience less static/pops versus using a standard Bluetooth dongle.
Check the microphone settings: Go to Settings > System > Sound > Input > Device properties > Additional device properties. In the Microphone Properties window, go to the Levels tab and make sure that the microphone volume is turned up. Update audio drivers: Go to Device Manager and check if there are any updates for your audio drivers.
The audio (speakers) work fine, but windows cannot "hear " the microphone. This is across Windows test (in settings) and zoom and Teams. Have reset, repaired, checked drivers etc. Mic works fine with other input devices, just not the airpod mic.
Basically, connecting your Airpod Pros 2 to Windows 11 will give a muffled effect that gives these amazing earphones no justice. While I understand that it has slightly been fixed since Windows 10, which wouldn't even allow you to even listen to them unless you disabled the microphone, it is still unusable.
I just have 2 options in microphone & speaker when airpods are connected i.e. laptop microphone vs airpod microphone & airpod speaker vs laptop speaker & both are default selected when airpod is connected so I didn't manually interfere. (PFB the image) Pls note mine are 2 gen airpods just so we are on the same page. .
Edit: in case someone finds this later, this issue is massively improved in the new AirPods Pro gen 2. I tested with a friends pair in strong wind and was very surprised to hear it kept the voice clear on the other end.
SOLVED - AirPod microphone stopped working Posting here as I had searched far and wide and was ready to give up, but solved my issue. I had an issue where one day, all of a sudden the microphone for both left and right AirPods stopped working.
Reboot the computer do a (hard) amber light reset on the airpod case, and re-pair. When I did it I had a goofy disconnect in the first 30 seconds or so, when i used the recorder app on windows, but after that it has just worked perfectly for the last week. Something to do with the drivers being used and maybe the same name as an old airpod pro 1.
My Airpod Pros were connected to my laptop running Windows 10 and displayed both "Headphone" and "Headset" options for sound and sound/microphone accordingly. After reconnecting my Airpods today, they were only added as "Headphones" and not a "Headset" meaning I cannot use the mic.
