Im running a Lenovo M93P Tiny machine with 8Gb of RAM, 250Gb SSD, and an add on USB 3.0 1GB NIC. Havent tried PFSense or ClearOS. ClearOS seems to be a beta test for their company unless you shell out cash. Im not interesting in donating my resources to beta test for that company to turn around and sell it for monetary gain.

If you use Chromium, Firefox or something like that (app who need internet access) it will be inserted into the main list automatically - simplewall logs all blocked packets and collect executable files (firefox.exe, chrome.exe etc.) into his own database (see main window) and if you need to allow this app - just check it in the main window.

Simplewall works just fine. The requests for changes are 99% for cosmetic things like a dark-themed GUI, special "nice-to-have" features, etc. These are the sorts of changes that will turn Simplewall into another bloated, do-everything app like Evorim. Simplewall provides excellent security and is very VERY light on computer resources.

But SimpleWall, TinyWall use own provider. There is a filter arbitration mechanism for multiple providers in WFP [2]. (BTW, filter's weight is significant only inside of provider.) Also, firewalls can use WFP's standard filtering mechanism or custom mechanism by using own kernel driver - Callout driver [3].
