Glen Ferris Inn, also known as Stockton's Inn, Stockton's Tavern, and Hawkins's Hotel, is a historic hotel located on the bank of the Kanawha River overlooking Kanawha Falls at Glen Ferris, Fayette County, West Virginia. It may have been built as early as 1815. It is a T-shaped brick building in two sections.
The Charleston, West Virginia, architectural firm of Meanor & Handloser designed the building, and the construction of the hotel was done by Payne Construction of Ashland, Kentucky, at a final cost of $600,000. In a naming contest held by the Chamber of Commerce, the name "Mountaineer Hotel" was chosen with a $100 prize going to the winner. [3]
Tyree Stone Tavern, also known as the Old Stone House, is a historic inn and tavern located near Clifftop, Fayette County, West Virginia. It was built in 1824, and is a two-story fieldstone building. It measures approximately 40 feet long and 30 feet deep. It served as a stage coach stop on the James River and Kanawha Turnpike. [2]
