Melrose is a city located in the Greater Boston metropolitan area in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States. Its population as of the 2020 census was 29,817. It is a suburb located approximately seven miles north of Boston .
Downtown Melrose is a short walk away and access to Boston is available with the use of Melrose Highlands Station on the MBTA's Reading/Haverhill commuter rail line. MBTA bus Route 131 has service from Melrose Highlands to Oak Grove on the Malden/Melrose city line, and to Malden Center, both on the MBTA rapid-transit Orange Line.
Livermore died in Melrose, Massachusetts, on May 23, 1905. [21] The Mary A. Livermore School in Melrose, operational from 1891 to 1933, [22] was an elementary school named for her.
