The 1969 Wyoming Cowboys football team represented the University of Wyoming in the 1969 NCAA University Division football season. Led by eighth-year head coach Lloyd Eaton , they were members of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) and played their home games on campus at War Memorial Stadium in Laramie .

Born in Center, Texas, Williams attended Dunbar High School, where he helped the football team achieve a 26–3 record. He accepted a football scholarship from the University of Wyoming under head coach Lloyd Eaton. In his sophomore season in 1967, he backed up senior halfback Jim Kiick and rushed for 389 yards.
