The Netherlands Maritime Special Operations Forces (NLMARSOF, also simply referred to as MARSOF) is the special forces unit of the Marine Corps of the Royal Netherlands Navy. It is one of the three principal units tasked with special operations in the Netherlands (the other being the Korps Commandotroepen and 300SQN).

It consists of a selection of specially trained marines of the Dutch Marine Corps, and it is part of the Netherlands Maritime Special Operations Forces (NLMARSOF), which is the maritime counterpart of the Dutch Army's Korps Commandotroepen. NLMARSOF is able to operate in and outside of the Netherlands, with emphasis on maritime special operations.

After getting promoted to Major General in 2004, he became commander of the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps. In 2007 Zuiderwijk was again promoted, this time to Lieutenant General as he became Commander of the Royal Netherlands Navy. [1] In 2010 he was succeeded by Vice Admiral Matthieu Borsboom. [2]
