Hartman is the main antagonist in Texas Chainsaw 3D, one of the first to not be a member of Leatherface's family. When Leatherface was about to be taken in, Hartman took the law into his own hands and led a lynch mob, seemingly killing all the Sawyers. He and the rest of the mob where hailed as heroes, and Burt becomes the Mayor.
"The original Leatherface, Chainsaw 3, took the idea of the backwoods isolation of the original and exploded it tenfold. I always think of the locations of this film—the scrub brush filled badlands and remote roadside outposts as feeling like another world—a dark fairy tale land in some way.
Leatherface is attacked from behind by Hartman and his friend Ollie. Heather takes the opportunity to escape. As Hartman and Ollie prepare to throw Leatherface into a meat grinder, Heather returns and kills Ollie, and tosses Leatherface his chainsaw. In the struggle, the sheriff arrives but hesitates to stop Leatherface from killing Hartman.
Leatherface is the only character to appear in all nine films in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise, with later films exploring different aspects of him, while changing the overall history of the character and his family.
