It invested in various chains of retail stores and electronics companies while receiving royalties on toy train sales made by General Mills (later Lionel Trains, Inc.). Joshua Lionel Cowen (August 25, 1877 – September 8, 1965), born Joshua Lionel Cohen, was an American inventor and cofounder of Lionel Corporation, a manufacturer of model railroads and toy trains who gained prominence in the market before and after World War II.
In 2001, Lionel produced another Blue Comet model train with a real model 4-6-2; only 1,000 were produced. This model was an entire set. Also in 2001, Lionel produced a separate two car pack consisting of Combo car Halley, and Coach car Tuttle. In 2003, Lionel produced a separate model of diner "Giacobini".
The locomotives include a Union Pacific EMD SW1500 switcher, an Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway F3A diesel locomotive (usually used to pull passenger trains), a 2-8-0 steam locomotive, and a 1950s passenger railcar. An enhanced version, titled 3D Ultra Lionel Traintown Deluxe, was released the following year.
