Post-1979 models use smaller 34 mm (1.3 in) Mikuni CV carbs with needles that seem to be listed in parts menus as being 'fixed' position,(in other words a needle that may only have one clip position). The pilot and main jets can be changed for different sizes. If the 34 mm (1.3 in) CV carb needles only have one fixed clip position.
Other features included an electronically controlled "main jet block off under decel" system (for emissions purposes) 39 millimeter Mikuni carburetors and 43 mm inverted forks which were fully adjustable. Also, a 17-inch rear rim was fitted as standard with a 190/50-17 size tire as fitted to all models from 1996 to 1999.
The actual fuel and air flows are more complicated and need adjustment. This might be done variously at lower speeds or higher speeds, or over the whole range by a variable emulsion device to add air to the fuel after the main jets/s. In SU and other (e.g. Zenith-Stromberg) variable jet carburetors, it was mainly controlled by varying the jet size.

The engine in the Aprilia SX 50 is sourced from Derbi/Piaggio (D50B0/D50B1). This engine is used in the Derbi Senda DRD/X-Race/X-Treme supermotos and crossers, as well as the 2006 onwards Derbi GPR 50 and Aprilia RS 50 road bikes, although the road bikes feature an electric starter instead of a kickstarter on the supermotos.
