Legacy Health is a non-profit hospital system located in Portland, Oregon, United States. [1] It consists of six primary-care hospitals, a children's hospital, and allied clinics and outpatient facilities. The system employs about 14,000 staff members, and is the second-largest system in the Portland metro area, after Providence Health & Services.
The hospital was founded by Rev. Benjamin Wistar Morris and was originally located at northwest 21st and L streets. [3] Initially, the three-story hospital had 25 beds and was built for $10,000. [3] [4] In 1889, the hospital expanded to be able to handle 75 patients. [3]
Rush Medical College was chartered on March 2, 1837, two days before the city of Chicago was chartered. [3] The college opened with 22 students on December 4, 1843. It was Chicago's first health care institution [4] and one of the few medical schools west of the Alleghenies.

A block within the Illinois Medical District bounded by Taylor, Wood, Polk and Lincoln (now Wolcott) Streets was home to the Chicago Cubs baseball club from 1893 to 1915, at the 16,000 capacity West Side Park. The first game was held on May 14, 1893 (Cincinnati 13, Chicago 12) and the last game was on October 3, 1915 (Chicago 7, St. Louis 2).
