Rajendra Prasad (3 December 1884 – 28 February 1963) was an Indian politician, lawyer, journalist and scholar who served as the first president of India from 1952 to 1962.

From 1947 to 1950, the head of state under the Indian Independence Act 1947 was King of India , [ 1 ] [ 2 ] who was also the monarch of the United Kingdom and of the other Dominions of the British Commonwealth .
He was considered as a candidate for the post of the President of India in 2002. During his time in Maharashtra, he had additional charge of Goa from 1996 to 1998. He was also a member of the Rajya Sabha representing Maharashtra as an independent candidate from 29 July 2002 to 2 April 2008.
