Naofumi's party set out for the corpse, which resurrects into a zombie dragon. During their fight, the dragon swallows Filo, seemingly killing her, which triggers Naofumi's despair and rage to activate his cursed "Rage Shield". Naofumi repels the dragon's attacks with strong defense and passive flames at the cost of losing his composure.
Once they regroup, Naofumi confirms that the Emperor Dragon will absorb Filo fully by sunrise unless they defeat it first, and comes with a plan to lure it out of its cave with his Shield of Wrath. Wyndia reveals to Atla and Fohl how she was raised by the dragon, also named Gaelion, after her father's death, until it was killed by Ren.
Naofumi and Rishia go ahead to face Kyo while the rest stay back to deal with "Kazuki". Kyo laughs and taunts at Naofumi, further and further enraging him to the point that he allows the Shield of Wrath to completely consume him. Rishia attempts to calm him down but the possessed Naofumi nearly kills her, berating her for her uselessness.
