The X-Men are a superhero team in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by writer/editor Stan Lee and artist/co-plotter Jack Kirby, the team first appeared in The X-Men #1 (September 1963). [1]
X-Men's first comic appearance, 1963's The X-Men #1, introduced the original five-member team and their mentor, Professor X, and saw them fight against the evil mutant known as Magneto. The X-Men have evolved over the years, expanding their team, dealing with themes of equality and chosen family, and creating their own nation of Krakoa.
The title was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, met with a lukewarm reception, and eventually became a reprints-only book in 1970. Interest was rekindled with 1975's Giant-Size X-Men #1 and the debut of a new, international team.
