I preferred the Krylon by a big margin, mostly because of drying issues with the Rustoleum. You need to use lighter coats and leave more time for drying between coats when using the Rustoleum. Otherwise it takes too long to truly harden up, (sometimes fordangedever). For removal of either; overnight soak in 'Super Dlean' Degreaser (purple ...
1. Galivants Ferry, S.C. Sep 4, 2010. #8. Re: Clear coat over Krylon. As long as you clear with an enamel based clear over enamel color you will be fine. If you go over enamel with a lacquer based clear it will crinkle the finish and ruin your paint job. Several light coats works best.
Re: how to paint webbing Summit: The Krylon webbing spray works great but is limited to a few colors, black, white, silver, and I think green (but its a darker green - not OD). It works well but the size of the actual "web" will be a bit larger than those seen on HS and B&C stocks.
Sanded smooth 3.Sprayed first coat of primer, let dry overnight (only had time for one coat) 4.Sanded with 320-400 grit. I held the can too far away when shooting the first coat of primer went on a little too dry. Sprayed another wetter coat, let dry for a couple of hours.
Layer 2 - My base coat is Krylon Camoflage Khaki (4291). Do not use the Rust-Oleum Camo Khaki, which has an orange base instead of a brown one. Layer 3 - For my base layer of browns I simply misted Krylon Camo Brown (4292) on the desired areas, over the top of by Kakhi base. This is fairly visible in the top photo.
North Carolina. Jun 19, 2011. #2. Re: painting rifle stock with web finish. You can get acrylic lacquer automotive paint and do not thin it out at all with thinner and spray it from a conventional paint gun. It will string out of the gun giving you the effect of a web, just stay back from your job and let it go.
Re: which clear coat after krylon If you used Krylon Matte clear, it may never dry. I've gotten the same thing. Some cans will dry. Some stay tacky forever. If it's a work gun, you can spray flat lacquer over the matte clear and it will be dry to the touch and more impervious to chemicals. But lacquer is soft and will polish to a gloss with use.
It's satin or gloss paint or flat (in regards to the camo colors) that does not need to be put over primer on plastic. Get TRUE Krylon primer. The Fusion will probably work very poorly over existing paint or on metal. *Fusion over bare plastic. *Primer (which Fusion is not) over already painted models or metal models.
Re: Any tips on removing Krylon? Its actually everything EXCEPT the stock. I have a Mcmillan on the way, and was ganna strip my barreled action, then paint the entire rifle in its new stock. I just didn't want to have my old krylon covered action, sitting in a freshly painted stock.
The last time that I had to remove Krylon, I used some 3M "environmentally safe" paint stripper from the local hardware store. It quickly dissolved the paint without touching the OEM Manners finish (which I believe is Polane). I've also used Castrol GTX degreaser to remove paint from delicate surfaces.
