Belton is located in northwest Cass County and is four miles from the Missouri-Kansas border.The city is on Missouri Route 58 west of I-49/U.S. Route 71. Raymore lies four miles to the east, Peculiar is seven miles to the southeast along Route 71 and Grandview is five miles to the north in Jackson County.
As of the 2020 census, the population was 107,824. [1] Its county seat is Harrisonville ; however, the county contains a portion of Kansas City, Missouri . [ 2 ] The county was organized in 1835 as Van Buren County , but was renamed in 1849 after U.S. Senator Lewis Cass of Michigan , who later became a presidential candidate .
