Surya Prakash (1968 – 27 May 2024) was an Indian film director who worked on Tamil and Telugu-language films. He made his directorial debut with Manikkam (1996), before making the action films, Maayi (2000) and Diwan (2003).

Suriya is an Indian actor and film producer who works primarily in Tamil cinema. [1] [2] He made a commercially successful cinematic debut in Vasanth's Nerrukku Ner (1997).[3] [4] After few critical and commercial failures, Suriya collaborated with Vasanth again in Poovellam Kettuppar (1999), his first film with his future wife Jyothika.
After an official announcement in October 2020 by the cast and crew, including the directors, writers, composers, cinematographers and editors, production of short film-episodes began during the same month and ended by March 2021. Three films proposed by directors Halitha Shameem, Ponram and K. V. Anand, were dropped during the production stage.

Seeing the success of the Tamil-language film, Singam (2010), directed by Hari, the film rights for the Hindi and Kannada versions were sold by the makers. Reliance Big Pictures, which co-produced the original version, bought the Hindi remake rights and announced in November 2010 that the version would feature Rohit Shetty as director and Ajay Devgn in the lead.
