Lake Whitney is a flood control reservoir on the main stem of the Brazos River in Texas. It is located on River Mile Marker 442 and controls drainage for 17,656 square miles (45,730 km 2 ) of Texas and parts of New Mexico.
Sea Rim State Park is a 4,141-acre (1,676 ha) state park in southeast Texas. [2] The park is located on the Gulf of Mexico in southern Jefferson County , south of Port Arthur and just west of Sabine Pass .
Lake Whitney State Park is 3 miles (5 km) west of Whitney via Farm to Market Road 1244. According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 1.9 square miles (4.9 km 2 ), of which 0.02 square miles (0.06 km 2 ), or 1.23%, is covered by water.
The community is situated at the southern end of Lake Whitney, near the dam. Following the completion of Whitney Dam in the early 1950s, Laguna Park became a recreation destination. Small stores and a post office opened to serve the surrounding agricultural area as well as visitors to Lake Whitney.
