Saint-Pierre is the third subprefecture of the island. It comprises eight communes, lying in the northwest of Martinique.
The Canton of Les Anses-d'Arlet is a former canton in the Arrondissement of Le Marin on the island of Martinique. It had 3,900 inhabitants as of 2012. [ 1 ] It was disbanded in 2015.

The city was captured by a British expedition which captured Martinique in 1762, but the island was returned to French control in the Treaty of Paris. [3] In 1839, the city was struck by a minor earthquake , and in 1890 saw an outbreak of fire which razed part of the city.
