On April 2, 2013, Higgins signed a four-year, $10 million extension with the Canucks. During the 2015–16 season, on January 12, 2016, Higgins was put on waivers after unsuccessful attempts to trade the winger. He cleared waivers the next day and was sent down to the Utica Comets, the AHL affiliate of the Canucks. [34]
