K&B (initialism of Katz & Besthoff) was a drug store chain headquartered in New Orleans.Founded in 1905, it expanded to have stores in the United States Gulf Coast region until it was purchased by Rite Aid in 1997.
The building is the former residence and apothecary of America's first licensed pharmacist, Louis J. Dufilho, Jr. [2] [3] [4] Dufilho was licensed in pharmacy in 1816. [4] This was in the setting when public health was lacking in New Orleans. [5] The building was designed by J. N. B DePouilly. [3]
Kenner first opened as a hospital on March 30, 1941, with 871 beds, and was expanded to 2,000 beds by October 1942. On June 7, 1944, it was designated a regional hospital and remained in that status until it was downsized to 1,100 beds in 1947.
Kenner is served by the Jefferson Parish Public School System. [24] Kenner originally had one high school, Alfred Bonnabel High School, which is located on the border between Metairie and Kenner. Most areas in Kenner are zoned to this high school, while some areas in the southeast are zoned to East Jefferson High School in Metairie. [25]
