The capitol building is a 241.67-foot (73.7 m) tall, 21-story, Art Deco, high rise designed by North Dakota architects Joseph Bell DeRemer of Grand Forks and William F. Kurke of Fargo in conjunction with the noted Chicago firm of Holabird and Root, [1] [7] It is the tallest building in North Dakota and is known as the Skyscraper on the Prairie.

The Liberty Memorial Building is located at 604 East Boulevard Avenue on the capitol grounds in Bismarck. It was originally built to provide additional office space for state agencies and to mark the end of World War I. The building is dedicated to the memory of the men and women of North Dakota who served in that war. [3]
In 1955, the North Dakota legislature approved House Bill 761 providing $200,000 for a new governor's residence to be built because the current mansion was in a state of disrepair. The architects were originally Leonhard & Askew of Bismarck, [ 1 ] but were replaced by Ritterbush Brothers when their design proved too expensive. [ 2 ]
The North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (DOCR) provides prison services for the state of North Dakota. The Division of Field Services supervises parolees through 14 field offices. [1] DOCR also has a Division of Juvenile Services providing supervision and case management of delinquent youth of the state. [2]

The North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum, located on the North Dakota State Capitol grounds in Bismarck, is the state of North Dakota's official history museum. The original building, which was opened in 1981, [ 1 ] is operated by the State Historical Society of North Dakota and features permanent and temporary exhibits.
