During the 20th century, Donnison School fell into disrepair. In 2001 it was purchased by the charity Living History North East from the Church of England. Frontier Regional School (FRS) is a regional combined public high school and middle school in South Deerfield, Massachusetts, United States, serving students in grades 7–12, as part of the Union 38 School District. The district serves the four towns of Deerfield, Sunderland, Whately and Conway.
The academy is currently rated as "Good" by OFSTED (Jan 2012); its results have passed national averages, making it one of the highest performing schools in the City of Sunderland and the North East. In 2009 the predecessor school closed on 26% 5A-C. The results since have increased each year: 2010 = 43%; 2011 = 54%; 2012 = 67%; 2013 = 68%.

Cleadon Church of England Academy is the village primary school. It is the result of an amalgamation of the village Infant and Junior Schools in the early 2000s. A new school building was completed in 2007 to accommodate all pupils. The school gained academy status in 2014 and a nursery was added to the site in 2017. [24]
