Blue Mountain City is a former settlement in Calaveras County, California, [1] along Licking Fork, approximately 20 miles (32 km) northeast of Mountain Ranch. Quirauk Mountain is the highest point on South Mountain. [2] The 2,145-foot (654 m) peak is located in northeastern Washington County , Maryland . It lies just southwest of Fort Ritchie Military Reservation in the village of Cascade and about 1/2 mile southeast of the community of Blue Mountain.

Across the Potomac the ridge continues as Blue Ridge Mountain in Virginia and West Virginia. To the west of Elk Mountain is the broader Cumberland Valley, in which lie the towns of Hagerstown and Chambersburg, and the Potomac River. The southern end of the ridge, which is part of Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, is known as Maryland Heights.
