There is nearly universal agreement that 2006 Impala represents a new generation (including here on Impala's wikipedia page), and I would argue that a 2006 Monte Carlo has more in common with a 2006 Impala than it does with a 2005 Monte Carlo. For all of these reasons, 2006-07 Monte Carlos should be recognized as a distinct generation.
