Moore Reservoir is an impoundment on the Connecticut River located in the communities of Littleton, New Hampshire; Dalton, New Hampshire; Waterford, Vermont; and Concord, Vermont. It occupies approximately 3,181 acres (12.87 km 2). [1]
The park land is owned by the US Army Corps of Engineers and leased from by the State of Vermont. [1] The park contains the Quechee Gorge , a popular Vermont tourist stop. The land was originally the site of the Dewey wool mill which ceased operation in 1952 and relocated to Enfield, New Hampshire .
The fort was the first permanent European settlement in Vermont. It consisted of a 180-square foot (17 m²) wooden stockade with 12 guns manned by 55 men (43 Massachusetts militiamen and 12 Mohawk warriors). It was named after Lieutenant Governor William Dummer, who was acting governor of Massachusetts at the time of the fort's construction.
Pisgah State Park is a 13,300-acre (5,400 ha) public recreation area located in the Cheshire County towns of Winchester, Chesterfield and Hinsdale in New Hampshire. [4] [5] It is the largest state park in New Hampshire and contains a complete watershed north of the Ashuelot River, seven ponds, four highland ridges, numerous wetlands, [4] and a 20-acre (8 ha) parcel of old-growth forest.
Chesterfield Gorge Natural Area, also known as Chesterfield Gorge State Wayside, is a 13-acre (5.3 ha) state park on Route 9 in Chesterfield, New Hampshire. [3] The park conserves a rocky gorge with waterfalls on Wilde Brook. There is picnicking, a seasonal visitor center, and 0.7-mile (1.1 km) trail on either side of the brook.
Maidstone State Park is a state park in the U.S. state of Vermont. [2] The park is located in the town of Maidstone in Essex County in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom.One of the state's most remote parks, it provides public access to the 796-acre (322 ha) glacial Maidstone Lake [3] in Maidstone State Forest.
