All applicants, regardless of degree status, who apply for admission to the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine must complete the following biological and physical science prerequisite courses* at Auburn University or their equivalent courses at another institution.
Students completing pre-veterinary work at Auburn University must complete the requirements for the Auburn University core. Courses will not be waived on the basis of practical experience. Pass-fail or satisfactory-unsatisfactory grades are not acceptable in required courses.
Prospective Veterinary Students. The Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) curriculum is a rigorous four-year program which provides a broad-based education to all students. This prepares them to enter a variety of careers within veterinary medicine. Students take 19 to 24 credit hours per term.
THE COLLEGE OF VETERINARY MEDICINE offers a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Public and One Health (PAOH), a professional Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree, and graduate degrees (MS and PhD) in Biomedical Sciences (VMBS).
Students are required to have 4 hours of elective credit in the pre-clinical curriculum (semesters 2-5), but may have more. In spring of year 3 (semester 6), students are required to take EITHER VMED 9320 or VMED 9420, but may take both, if their schedule allows.
