During the 1970s, Julius and his wife, Cissy, collaborated on film scores and musicals. One last reunion took place in the 1980s which lasted a couple of years and produced an album called Naturally in 1982. It featured Julius Wechter on marimba and three band alumni, Bernie Fleischer on reeds, guitarist Charlie Chiarenza and trombonist Dave Wells.
Julius Wechter was a percussionist in Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, most notably on marimba. "Spanish Flea" was one of several songs he wrote for the group. It was released as an instrumental on the B-side to the single "What Now My Love" from their 1965 album Going Places.
I can assure you there are lyrics. The credit for the tune is "Julius and Cissy Wechter". Cissy was (is) a marvelous lyricist, but not a musician. If one of her husband's compositions carries her name too, it did have lyrics. Good luck in your search - I, a lifelong Ventures fan, would love to see they lyrics, too!
