In October 1993, the 60-store Standard Drug chain was bought by CVS Corp., which closed several locations and renamed the others as Peoples Drug stores. [1] CVS had purchased the Washington, D.C.–based Peoples in 1990, renovating and expanding most of the stores, but had retained the Peoples name.
On March 14, 2018, SuperValu Inc. announced they are selling 21 of its 38 Farm Fresh Food & Pharmacy stores to The Kroger Co. (under Kroger Mid-Atlantic and Harris Teeter) and Ahold Delhaize (under Food Lion) for $43 million (~$51.4 million in 2023) in cash. [5]
The West Broad Street Industrial and Commercial Historic District is a national historic district located at Richmond, Virginia. The district encompasses 29 contributing buildings and 1 contributing object built between 1902 and the 1930s.
Peoples Drug was a chain of drugstores based in Alexandria, Virginia. [1] Founded in 1905, Peoples was subsequently purchased by Lane Drug in 1975, Imasco in 1984, and finally by CVS in 1990, which continued to run the stores under the Peoples banner until 1994, at which time the stores were converted to CVS, marking the end of the use of the Peoples Drug name.
Along Broad St., an area roughly bounded by Belvidere, Marshall, 4th, and Grace; also 709-916 W. Broad St., 308-310 N. Laurel St., and 301-306 Gilmer St.; also the southern side of the 100 block of E. Marshall St., and the 300 blocks of 1st and 2nd Sts., between Broad and Marshall Sts.

Notable buildings include the Laburnum House (1908), Richmond Memorial Hospital (1954–1957), Richmond Memorial Hospital Nursing School (1960–1961), "The Hermitage" (1911), Laburnum Court (1919), Veritas School. The alliance created a national PBM of nearly 1,400 Longs and American Stores pharmacy outlets and a nationwide network of 40,000 pharmacies serving some 3 million patients under contract. Longs and Albertsons remained equal partners up though 2001, when Albertsons sold their 50% interest to Longs.
The Grace Street Commercial Historic District is a national historic district located in Richmond, Virginia. The district encompasses 93 contributing buildings located in downtown Richmond. The buildings reflect the core of the city's early 20th-century retail development and the remnants of a 19th-century residential neighborhood.
