The Rapid City Historic Commercial District, sometimes called the Rapid City Downtown Historic District, is a 21-acre (8.5 ha), multi-block historic district in downtown Rapid City, South Dakota, United States. It includes 47 commercial buildings dating from the late 19th to early 20th centuries that formed the core of Rapid City's early economy.
Rapid City is the county seat of Pennington County, South Dakota, United States. [10] It is the second-most populous city in the state, after Sioux Falls. It is located on the eastern slope of the Black Hills in western South Dakota and was named after Rapid Creek, where the settlement developed. The population was 74,703 as of the 2020 census. [6]
Uptown Rapid, formerly Rushmore Mall, is a shopping mall located in Rapid City, South Dakota. It opened in 1978 and fulfills the needs of residents in a sprawling western South Dakota/northwestern Nebraska/northeastern Wyoming market area. The mall is currently owned by Rockstep Capital.
On December 1, 2007, Drake won the Iowa Realty Invitational with victories over North Carolina Central and Duquesne. The median age in the city was 36.6 years. 24.2% of residents were under the age of 18; 10.3% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 24.9% were from 25 to 44; 25.2% were from 45 to 64; and 15.4% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 49.2% male and 50.8% female.
From 1910 to 1922, a city commission government was used. Later that year, the system of government was changed to council–manager. Rapid City returned to a mayor–council government in 1957. [4] The Rapid City Council chose to extend the mayoral term to four years in 2015, and the change took effect in 2019. [5]
