This is a list of all the consonants which have a dedicated letter in the International Phonetic Alphabet, plus some of the consonants which require diacritics, ordered by place and manner of articulation.
The following tables present pulmonic and non-pulmonic consonants. In the IPA, a pulmonic consonant is a consonant made by obstructing the glottis (the space between the vocal cords) or oral cavity (the mouth) and either simultaneously or subsequently letting out air from the lungs. Consonants with two simultaneous places of articulation are said to be coarticulated. The phonation of a consonant is how the vocal cords vibrate during the articulation. The International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) requires specific names for the symbols and diacritics used in the alphabet.. It is often desirable to distinguish an IPA symbol from the sound it is intended to represent, since there is not a one-to-one correspondence between symbol and sound in broad transcription.
Consonants may have many places of articulation simultaneously. At least two if that is lingual consonant, e.g. (radical, apical, dorsal)×(labial, interdental, alveolar, postalveolar) + palatalization + velarisation + pharyngealization. So that one-dimension list is too restricted. But sorry (uk:але жаль)!
It is a lateral consonant, which means it is produced by directing the airstream over the sides of the tongue, rather than down the middle. Its airstream mechanism is pulmonic , which means it is articulated by pushing air solely with the intercostal muscles and abdominal muscles , as in most sounds.
